Harry’s running the Pub2Pub for Bear Cottage

11 year old doing his bit to raise funds for charity in our biggest community event

11 year old Harry Turner, currently one of our top fundraisers, encapsulates the spirit of the iconic Pub2Pub Charity Fun Run & Festival. Last year he successfully walked the 6km course option from Warriewood to Newport… but this year he’s pledged to run that distance… in 40 minutes or less… to raise funds for a cause close to his heart.

Harry is from St Luke’s Grammar School, Bayview Campus. At the beginning of every year, the school encourages each class to nominate a ‘favourite charity’ and conduct some fundraising events over the year – a great way to teach the importance of giving and community service.

The class chose Bear Cottage as their cause for the year and the amazing work they do resonated personally with Harry. So he decided to go beyond class efforts and make an individual effort.

“I’m honestly inspired by the work Bear Cottage does and really want to support them”, says Harry.

“Last year, I walked the 6km Pub2Pub course, but this year I’m challenging myself to run the course in under 40 minutes… and I’m asking people to sponsor my challenge to raise funds for Bear Cottage.

“I’m doing this because I really want to make a difference. Bear Cottage is the only children’s hospice in all of NSW. That makes it a very special place, dedicated to caring for children with what they call ‘life-limiting’ conditions.

“I promise to train hard and run as hard as I can on the day! So please help me to help Bear Cottage by visiting my fundraising page (https://pub2pub2018.everydayhero.com/au/harry-turner) and making a donation. Even if everyone gives just $5, that would be fantastic.”

Harry’s mum, Fiona, says she’s hoping he’ll make it all the way in the time he’s set himself. “Harry’s a very determined child and the Bear Cottage cause really resonates with him. This challenge he’s set himself is a very personal one, separate to what his school is doing. I think he’ll make it. He’s even trying to rope in some friends to join him.”

Organised by Rotary of Brookvale, this year’s Pub2Pub will be run on Sunday, August 26.

Registrations are now open for this year’s big event and Early Bird discounts, Family Packages and lower prices for Juniors are all available until Sunday June 3.
